I write notes to myself… all of the time. I just came across one;
“When I think of _____________, I appreciate X, Y, Z.”
When is the last time you thought about how much and why you appreciate the different people you work with?
- Customers
- Vendors
- Co-workers
- Supervisors
- Leaders
- Employees
- Prospects
- Other Departments
- Salespeople
As I speak with, email, IM people I’ve been sharing what I appreciate about them.
To ensure I get an X, Y, and Z – here are the three things I’m asking myself, “what do I appreciate”:
- … about them as a person?
- … about this interaction?
- … when we work together?
Now I don’t always get three. By asking myself those questions I do find I’ve always come up with two.
This morning I’ve shared my appreciation for: friendship, patience, understanding, best practices, referrals, generosity, and joy.
Everyone has seemed shocked and surprised. Which has made me a little sad – to find that appreciation is so under communicated.
My friend Debbie Mrazek (author of The Field Guide to Sales) sent me a card that says Be Kind on the front. I’m thinking we all need more of that. Put in a minimum amount of effort to spread kindness and appreciation around to the people you’re speaking with anyway.
With gratitude & appreciation,
Lynn
ps: if you need some gratitude – I appreciate that you continue to read my newsletter all the way through the PS at the very end, you believe I bring value to your life, and that you find my content useful (see what I did there?).
