These days most people have bought into the MYTH of “multi-tasking.”
Yes, it’s a myth, and back in 2008 Dave Crenshaw wrote the book on it:
The Myth of Multitasking: How “Doing It All” Gets Nothing Done
More recently, a study at the University of London found that participants who multitasked during cognitive tasks experienced IQ score declines that were similar to what they’d expect if they had smoked marijuana or stayed up all night.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t have that kind of luxury of reducing my brain power in sales situations!
Here are a few resources so you never have to say “Sorry, what??” to a prospect or customer.Avoiding Distractions – Resources

ARTICLE:
You can laugh at me, but when I was on entrepreneur.com checking out two articles on avoiding distractions…I was distracted, right in the middle of the “11 tips,” so instead thought I should share “3 Ways to Avoid Distractions and Be More Productive” which I didn’t get distracted while reading because it was only 3 items and not 11.

POST:
Although WebMD calls this post “Daily Living Tips for Adult ADHD,” slides 1, 2, 7 (think email), 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16 apply to inside salespeople, too!

VIDEO:
Here are my own three things: “3 Distraction Avoidance Tips” along with the how-to. You can read them or watch the video (whichever is least distracting.)

ARTWORK & INSPIRATION:
And, just for fun, check out this mural by Peter Fischli and David Weiss entitled “How to Work Better,” which is on the corner of Houston and Mott Streets in New York City. If you can focus long enough, I recommend visiting the entire exhibit at the Guggenheim.

All my best,

ps. I use BURSTfocus® for when I’m feeling like I’m wearing my distract-a-girl cape (imagine me saying that while in the Wonder Woman pose) and need to pull myself back. Pick a short period of time and do just one thing – some days 15 minutes is all I can handle – take a quick breather, then move on to another BURSTfocus®.
