Three Things for Daily Success

Surprise!

There is no genie in this lamp.

Sorry. I don’t have three wishes, three things, or three answers for you.

In fact, I don’t know even ONE of your Three Things for Daily Success.

You see, when it comes to your three things…

You have to figure them out for yourself.

Yuck, sounds like work, doesn’t it?

Okay, we’ll start with something easy.

VISUALIZE YOUR DESIRED OUTCOME.

I’m a big fan of reverse engineering. Think about how you want life to be once you have one of your three things.

And then work backward.

Once you have a destination in mind, write it down!

Now that you have a pen in your hand, let’s dig a little deeper.

FIRST

  • Choose an activity that is 100% in your control that will move you in the right direction…
    that is, toward your goal.
  • Pick a reasonable measurement for a single day of that activity.

SECOND

  • Write down a result you can achieve by doing that activity masterfully.
  • This will probably require someone else to DO something (a prospect, your customer, get it?) so write THAT down as well.
  • Figure out a reasonable daily measurement of that result.

THIRD

  • While STILL thinking about a daily achievable objective, visualize if you achieved it every day for a month. That would give you significant progress toward your goal, wouldn’t it?
  • At the end of each day, how will you know – what will be your marker or measurement – that you’ve achieved it? Write that down as a target, a reminder and a commitment.

Now that you’ve done the exercise above… SURPRISE!

You now have the tools for creating your THREE THINGS.

Here’s a sample of how to list an ACTIVITY with a TARGETED OUTCOME.

ACTIVITY Dial the phone
TARGETED OUTCOME 60 dials

ACTIVITY Have business conversations
TARGETED OUTCOME 10 conversations

ACTIVITY Find new opportunity
TARGETED OUTCOME 3 new opportunities

ACTIVITY Use BURSTfocus®
TARGETED OUTCOME Two 1-hour blocks

ACTIVITY Stay on track with each task
TARGETED OUTCOME Keep a tally of successes on a clearly-visible Post-it Note tick sheet

Remember, your activities and outcomes should make sense with your own goals and what you have reverse engineered.

The next step is to translate your Three Things into your Daily Success:

  • Once you achieve ONE of the things → mark it off as a good day
  • As you’ve accomplished TWO → consider it a great day
  • When you attain ALL THREE → *poof* an excellent day in the books

Not to overstate it, but you don’t need a genie to grant your wish.

I believe in you! You CAN create your own success by (1) knowing what you want to achieve and (2) making sure you have ACHIEVABLE daily activity… result… objective to move you forward in a consistent and constant way.

  • Never forget to pat yourself on the back for achieving a good day.
  • Great days deserve a woohoo! for yourself.
  • Always celebrate an EXCELLENT day!

Cheers,
Lynn

ps. Working through exercises like this can turn the abstract into something actionable. At your next inside sales meeting, decide on a group goal that would benefit from tangible action steps. Drop me a line and let me know what you’ve chosen, and we’ll workshop it (anonymously if you prefer) right here in the newsletter.
