When I’m thinking about a topic, many times my second action* is to plug my question into Google.
“what is leadership” returned “About 634,000,000 results (0.55 seconds)”
I guess a lot of people are still confused about this too. Here are the first three steps from my Simple Success Plan for Inside Sales Managers to become a great leader.
Step 1 to becoming a leader is to be able to articulate what leadership IS to you rather than defining leadership by what it is not.
Leadership Step 2: look in the metaphorical ego mirror and figure out which you are taking seriously, your job or yourself.
Next determine if your ego is where you want it to be. Is your ego healthy enough that you can separate your self from your role? A healthy ego gives you confidence in your leadership and abilities.
Then ask other people (who you trust to be honest with you) how they see you as well.
Now that you have a clear view of yourself and a picture of how other people view your ego, it is time to finish Step 3: compare the two Is your view of yourself in alignment with how other people see you?
Of course what you do next depends on what you found in those first three steps.
