Are you worried about being like everyone else?
I’ve noticed a trend in leadership that makes me nervous.
It’s one where everyone reads a book, then talks about it, and does the EXACT SAME THINGS.
These guys were having a ball playing at the Atwater Market in Montreal one Saturday. A trombone, banjo, and tuba. Not the same as any other (not quite marching) band, yet they sounded great. They were having fun. People were buying them beer (me included).
They didn’t care that most people would look at a trombone, banjo, and tuba and say “that will NOT sound good.”
They weren’t worried about sideways glances at their band uniforms and false noses.
These three KNEW they’d chosen music that would work.
They’d practiced together to make it sound great.
Plus they were having a great time.
THAT is what a good leadership team is like as well – not playing the EXACT same instruments and notes.
Making beautiful music by making sure you’re playing the same piece. Playing your instrument and part masterfully. The band better as a whole than any one person is individually.
