Anything special going on?

Pie for breakfast?

Yes I admit it, I had pie and ice cream for breakfast – it was WONDERFUL.

The #1 reason it was wonderful is that it was special – not an every day occurrence!

I savored each bite, mixed the ice cream with the blueberry rhubarb crusted goodness, sipped my coffee – ahhhhhhhh

Here is my question to you, when is the last time you had something special going on with your team? Something that made them feel as special as pie and ice cream for breakfast.

Now here are a few reminders:

  1. if the people on your team don’t like ice cream or pie, it isn’t going to seem special! make sure what you think is a treat, is what your salespeople appreciate
  2. if you do the exact same thing each week, it is routine. I don’t remember where I heard this but once is special, twice is a favor, thrice has become standard business practice
  3. making them earn it is ok. I made myself write all (but this one – I took the picture then wrote & ate) my posts before I allowed myself to have pie & ice cream for breakfast

Salespeople (in my experience) need to feel special – make sure you take the time to be creative and let them know they are important. When they demonstrate extraordinary effort or results; make the something special extraordinary.  When they are doing the right things; you can still give them a treat don’t fall into the ‘but that is their job’ trap!

Make sure that when other people in your organization are looking at your team – they can tell something special is going on.
