Personality = more important than sales skills (inspired by @ShawnSandy1)

“Personality & culture fit – trump skills & ability every… single… time.” ~ Shawn Carol Sandy

Got me thinking about how inside salespeople express their personality and culture fit over the phone… ESPECIALLY in that first prospecting conversation.

Here are three ways to express your personality.

How you use your VOICE
Perhaps the most important personality indicator people unconsciously use to decide if they want to speak with you is your voice.

  1. energy & enthusiasm
  2. tone & inflection
  3. pace & cadence

LANGUAGE and word choices
Never under estimate the ability for language to convey your personality and ability to fit into your prospects’ corporate culture.

  1. words you’d use in every day conversation
  2. micro-segment specific / industry terms
  3. education level appropriate

the EFFORT you put in
Nothing shows what it’s like to work with you to a prospect… than the work you do as you gain access and earn their business.

  1. pleasant persistence
  2. doing what you say you’ll do
  3. matching how you sell to how your prospect buys

Remember to decide WHAT you can do to share your personality effectively over the phone.
