Although Fred isn’t a talking dog like Dug from the movie “Up,” we do give him a voice when getting looks like the one in this picture.
Obviously, no one can truly know what is going on in a dogs mind since they can’t talk.
The crazy thing is that we can’t truly know what is going on in a person’s mind unless we ask them AND they trust us enough to share the truth.
Please stop assuming you know and start asking the question.
WAIT – first you have to build an environment where your team trusts you.
To ask what someone is thinking AND expect the truth, the other person must:
> know that regardless of their answer – there will not be repercussions or backlash
> believe you care about their answer
> not feel pressure to tell you what they think you want to hear
ok now that you’ve earned the right to ask what someone is thinking – you still HAVE to ask.
