Dr. Amishi Jha, author of Peak Mind (she is a neuroscientist who specializes in attention) being interviewed by Dax Shepard on Armchair Expert was recently recommended to me.
One of the analogies she uses is that attention is like a flashlight in a darkened room – you can clearly see where it’s pointed. Of course as the light field diffuses toward the edges you see less and less until everything is in complete darkness.
Next time you are working with people on your team, make sure your mental flashlight is pointed at them and focus on the conversation.
INSTEAD of doing what is in front of us well; too often it seems like people are attempting to do 18+ things simultaneously (and you know I agree with Dave Crenshaw that multitasking is a myth). It’s doing you and the person you’re working with a disservice.
This week – stop what you WERE doing and give your attention to what is happening now.
