Obligated AND Emotionally Impelled

Monday’s Inside Sales Leadership Corner was STOP “shoulding” all over yourself. Which means today is all about COMMITMENT and turning a ‘should do’ into a ‘I will do it’

  1. decide what is important to YOU and your success!
  2. prioritize.
  3. make the commitment.

Merriam-Webster’s definition 1c “the state or an instance of being obligated or emotionally impelled” means BEFORE you commit; decide if you are willing to be obligated AND emotionally impelled to take action.

Obligate YOURSELF

By making a commitment you are obligating YOURSELF to see it through to the logical conclusion. You are making a decision that your something is worth it – to YOU.

Oh yes, I know you may be obligating yourself to other people as well – that is actually less important than the fact you are making a choice of how to spend your time, energy, and effort.

Emotionally Impelled

This might sound crazy talking about inside sales, yet if you haven’t emotionally impelled yourself to do the work – you’ll probably give up. Easily falling back into old habits.

Instead, when you make a commitment determine what the emotional reason you want the RESULT is… that is what will keep you moving forward when things are difficult and not going your way.

Today: decide what you’re willing to commit to.
