Last week’s Chip off the Block: EVERYONE is Crazy Busy! was about customer and prospect conversations. Yet a salesperson clicked reply and said “I feel like internally everyone’s excuse is THEY are crazy busy.”
That got me thinking.
Are you using BUSY as an excuse for shoddy leadership?
1/2 Listening: if you’re like the guy in this picture – worried about time, balancing work on your head, while talking to the salespeople on your team. At BEST you’re 1/2 listening to them.
If you’re only half listening:
- you 1/2 understand what is going on
- your deal strategy is 1/2 valuable
- you’re demonstrating you only 1/2 care
Putting Things Off: how many of your regular self improvement AND team improvement activities are you putting off? Thinking that when you’re not as busy you’ll focus on them…
It’s not helping! If you and your team aren’t always improving, you may never be less busy. You certainly will never be MORE successful.
Rolling Your Eyes: I know that right now, you’re probably rolling your eyes – thinking about how there is no time to be found, not a moment extra.
Here is the deal. EVERYONE is Crazy Busy! You, your sales team, your prospects, your customers. Fact – yes. Excuse for shoddy leadership – no.
To pull yourself back to being a great leader, perhaps it’s time to revisit your priorities and make sure your activity is helping you work on them (sounds a bit like the direction you give your team… doesn’t it?).
