Do you know where you are?

Two things before I get started:
1. yes my GPM image is a race car.
2. yes this is what it looks like when you take a ferry.

I’ve been thinking a lot about how lost some salespeople, managers, and leaders seem to feel right now. Like they just glanced at their GPS and it’s no help.

Perhaps it’s time to go back to an actual map. Pull back the view and see the whole landscape: water, mountains, towns, cities, and the roads connecting them.

Maybe you don’t have to drive all the way around: you could take a ferry instead.

When the only view you have is close up – it’s tough figure out where you are… let alone decide if there is another way to your destination.

Today: look at your calendar and find 2-hours in the next week that you can block off and take a step back.

You know your goal(s) for this year: where are you right now.

Don’t hyperventilate if you can’t see a way to get there… instead back up and

  • see if there is a better route you can take.
  • pick a way point that you can direct yourself to and KNOW you can reach.
  • start making your way to that interim point from where you are to where you want to be.

Once you arrive at the way point – you do the same thing… over and over again until you reach your goal.
