I was a little shocked to find 1321 Focus Quotes on goodreads.com when I did a google search… the search itself gave me “About 898,000,000 results (0.52 seconds).”
If I’m honest (with myself) a couple of things happened when ALL those options were presented.
- I clicked onto the goodreads link and immediately felt overwhelmed – so aborted reading anything.
- Decided NOT to use a quote at all.
Which got me thinking about focus in your sales leadership and management roles.
Sales Leadership is about people.
Sales Management is about tasks and things.
Too often we are measuring 1321 things in inside sales which – just like me looking for a quote to use – probably leads to overwhelm and doing nothing, because you can’t decide what to focus on.
I’d make the suggestion that your focus be catching people on your team doing the RIGHT things.
That’s your leadership focus. Then as you’re managing the 1321 tasks and things, your focus is gathering evidence of people doing the right things.
All day, every day use that one focus and you’ll be surprised at what happens.
- you will see the good things more often than you do today.
- your conversations with salespeople and front line managers will change.
- managing tasks and things will feel good as you search for evidence of people doing the right things.
- your constant focus on the good, will impact your teams desire to do the right things consistently.
NO this doesn’t mean you’ll stop dealing with people doing the wrong things. It will not eliminate the tough conversations. It WILL change how often you need to. Trust me.
