Quite a while ago Alice Kemper @BestSalesTips mentioned a practice that transformed a sales team’s performance from the bottom of the list to the top.
My recollection (or perhaps transformation) of the story is at the end of every day they got together and shared ONE good thing that happened.
I actually do this with a friend, colleague, fellow inside salesperson (you know who you are Mike).
I’m thinking about it because we fell off the gratitude wagon… ok the meeting series ended, we both got busy and forgot to reschedule… then the insanity of the past few weeks happened. We’ve fixed that and are restarting the practice.
Somedays it’s easy to come up with – Friday we both had something by 10:30am.
Other days one of us has something quickly to share, and the other person struggles.
Occasionally we both struggle!
Our good thing can be… anything we think is a sales win: small, medium, large, and occasionally colossal.
Regardless, every day we both come up with something. It’s truly a highlight of my day. It allows me to leave feeling like I’ve accomplished SOMETHING.I’m grateful for good things.
I started calling people with gratitude as my intention:
- Grateful when they answer.
- Appreciative for conversations.
- Glad when they engage.
- Thankful for questions asked.
- Delighted when I uncover new opportunities.

Which reminded me that Dan Waldschmidt taught me to make all my conversations delightful years ago.
I’d let that slip, that is ok – I am now restarting that intention with a Delightful post-it note on my monitor. The funny thing about gratitude is, personally I find it to be the most important thing to reflect on when I find everything to be difficult.
Gratefully yours,
Lynn
