Shining the Spotlight on Karyn Greenstreet

When I first started training salespeople, I realized that having a methodology and process were critical to my success. Luckily (for everyone), I found Karyn Greenstreet’s Creating and Teaching Classes series.

Then, a later title just sucked me in: One Action NOW

Kayrn’s subtitle, “Get focused, stay on track, and get more done in your business,” aligns with my proprietary BURSTfocus® approach.

Karyn kicks it off with a bang (pg. 4): “Choose the one action to take right now which will have the greatest impact and move you toward your goals. Pick one action now and do it.”

When I feel like I can’t get started (or restarted), this is a book I grab to remind me I CAN do it.

Which may be why the #1 item on her Managing Information Overload list is a great reminder: “YOU are in charge of your To Do list.”

That’s always a smack upside the head when I need it most. Here’s what I mean…

Recently I had “one of THOSE weeks” where I couldn’t seem to get out of my own way.

So I took those three concepts from Karyn and got to work!

  • “YOU are in charge of your To Do list”
  • “Choose the one action to take right now which will have the greatest impact and move you toward your goals.”
  • “Pick one action now and do it.”

Step 1 – I wrote down every… single… thing… that I felt needed to be done (even cleaning the cat litter boxes). If nothing else, getting everything written down helped me relax a little, knowing I wouldn’t forget anything.

Step 2 – Then I wrote down what DOESN’T need to be done THIS week. Hey, if I’m in charge of my To Do list, I can decide what does and don’t get on this week’s list.

Step 3 – I took Karyn’s advice and chose the one, single action to take right at this moment to have the greatest impact and move me toward my goals.

Then, without a pause, Step 4 – I did it.

As I knew would happen, crossing that one thing off my list energized me to do steps 3 and 4 over and over again, until my list became a DONE list instead of a TO DO one.

I also recommend the other six of Karyn’s 7 Tips for Managing Information Overload here.

If you need to break through fog and inaction, gain clarity, and take logical action steps, Karyn’s solid, practical approach is very appealing… and you can return to it again and again, whenever you need a reminder.

Here’s to taking one action step to get you back on track.

P.S. The steps to action that a sales manager requires are very different than what a salesperson needs. Sales managers can get mired in their lists, which becomes a block to working on customer facing activity. “I can’t work on ‘B’ until I get ‘A’ finished.” You’ve played that mind game, right? If you need an accountability partner or coach to help you break through and take action where you need it most, click reply and let’s talk.
