In the beginning of this series I shared that #BeingYourBest comes from conversations I’ve had with salespeople… mangers… leaders this year, that all came down to a few themes.
If you’ve been playing along you’ve already begun to implement:
- Mental effort required & when to do work
- Forecast for yourself
- Ignore what doesn’t apply to you
Today’s Giving in ≠ giving UP I’m going to do something differently than you’re used to reading from me, instead of giving you definitions for:
- giving in
- giving UP
Here are the opposites from Merriam-Webster instead!
- Give In antonyms: hold off, resist
- Antonyms of give up: carry on, continue, keep, keep up, maintain
Today think about all the things you’ve been holding off and resisting.
In sales (and life) there are times we tightly refuse to do things we know we ought to be doing.
Exercise – cleaning out the basement – dealing with things that make me emotional: oh, sorry that is my personal list. Make a list of everything on yours.
Now that you have a list, pick one thing that would make a significant impact on your inside sales performance.
Maybe one for your personal life as well.
Perhaps it’s time to give in!
Let go of your personal resistance. Stop worrying about what you might have to lose and figure out a way to DO that one thing you’ve been holding off on.
Exercise… instead of worrying about how much is “enough” I’ve committed to 15-minutes of MOVING every single day. Some day’s it’s more, but on no day is it nothing! Which is better than 2-weeks ago.
#BeingYourBest ISN’T giving UP. Now decide what you want to carry on, continue, keep, keep up, maintain.
You’ve added one thing to your list of “to do” that you’d like to become a habit for success.
Being your best also involves making sure you don’t let anything fall off your list that is currently contributing to your success.
For me, exercise needs to be a daily activity because if it’s not I can always put it off. Which is why in my personal world the habit is 15-minutes EVERY day. Of course, there are two important things:
- I have to decide if an activity counts as exercise (like cleaning the carpets and walking the dog).
- I can always go longer than 15-minutes.
Plus, I do need to ensure other things don’t fall off my success habits while I’m adding this new one – like eating more fruits and vegetables than processed food every day.
#BeingYourBest starts with understanding what will make you successful and creating good habits to make it easier to get there.
Make sure the habits you choose are moving you forward AND that you constantly look at what you’re doing habitually to ensure it’s still serving you well.
Personally, I advocate for picking some micro goals that are between where you are right now and where you want to be. They become the landmarks on your journey, helping you make sure you’re moving forward and on the right track.
As you reach a micro goal – AND set the next one, it’s the perfect time to reexamine everything:
- What am I holding off and resisting that I need to give into?
- What do I need to make sure I carry on, continue, keep, keep up, maintain for my success?
- Are my current inside sales habits going to help me reach my next micro goal?
#BeingYourBest isn’t easy. It certainly is worth it!
All my best,
Lynn
