Have you had one of those days where your plan falls apart before you even finish your coffee?
You sit down, ready to lead the team, dive into metrics, coach a rep or two…
And bam, your computer is doing everything except what you need it to.
And all you can think is:
“I don’t have time for this.”
The reality for inside sales leaders?
You’re never going to “find time” for the important-but-not-urgent stuff.
You have to make it.
Here’s what I did when my system locked me out (and how it became my most productive day of the week)
Instead of spiraling, doom-scrolling, or pretending to “stay busy,” I did this:
✅ Pulled out the back-burner list:
- You know, the one full of “someday” tasks that will actually make you a better leader.
- Mine included reading Mastering Major Account Selling and prepping for a Quick Tip TeleClass.
✅ Took action on important-but-neglected things:
- Started a blog post.
- Highlighted a killer quote.
- Walked the dog. (Yes, seriously. Brain resets matter.)
- Ran errands.
✅ Checked in with the helpdesk (again), got an ETA, and kept moving.
By 2:15 PM, I was finally logged in and I had two choices:
1. Panic and try to do ALL the things I had planned for earlier
2. Prioritize what still matters for today and roll the rest into tomorrow
I’m so glad I picked #2
💡 A LYNNSIGHT for Sales Leaders:
- You coach your reps to control what they can control.
- You remind them to stay focused on what matters.
- You say things like “Don’t let one bad call tank your whole day.”
Now it’s your turn to model all of those things!
