Not Everything Deserves Your Time Today

In sales, it’s easy to believe that if something hits your inbox or flashes on your screen, it deserves your attention.

It doesn’t.

The truth is: not everything deserves your time today.

Busy Is Easy — Focus Is Hard

You can stay busy all day answering emails, chasing low-probability leads, updating CRM fields, attending meetings that don’t need you.

Busy feels good — it feels productive. But it rarely builds your pipeline or moves you closer to your number.

Focus is harder. It forces you to make choices.

You have to:

  • Pick up the phone and call the prospect who ghosted you — instead of the easy follow-up.
  • Spend an hour preparing for a strategic conversation — not just answering low-level questions.
  • Push back on meetings that pull you away from selling.

The Power of No

Not every lead deserves a proposal.
Not every prospect deserves a follow-up.
Not every internal request deserves a “yes.”

Before you say yes to the next thing on your list, ask:

Is this helping me sell more today or in the future?

If the answer is no, it’s not where your time should go.

Protect Your Selling Time

Your calendar tells the story of your priorities. Look at it:

  • Are you spending time on activities that create pipeline?
  • Are you working deals that are real, not just possible?
  • Are you investing your energy where it will pay off?

High performers protect their selling time fiercely. They understand that every minute spent on the wrong thing costs them time they can’t get back.
