Let’s talk about cold calling. Yeah, I know—it’s not everyone’s favorite thing. But here’s another way to look at it: Cold calling is just reaching out to people who don’t know you yet.
That’s it. No magic, no tricks, no secret formula. Just starting a conversation.
Make a Mindshift
Instead of thinking, Ugh, I have to cold call today, try, I get to introduce myself to someone new. That small shift makes a big difference. You’re not bugging people—you’re offering something that could actually help.
Keep It Simple
- Be direct. Don’t overthink the opener. A simple “Hi [name], I’m [your name] with [company]. I’m calling because we’ve been working with [their job title] on [common problem] and wanted to see if it makes sense to connect.”
- Ask good questions. Instead of jumping straight into what you’re selling, find out what matters to them.
- Don’t force it. If they’re not interested, that’s fine. Move on. You can always reach out again later with a different approach or a relevant update. Not every call has to end in a step forward—make sure you take note of what you learned.
It’s Just a Conversation
At the end of the day, that’s all cold calling is—starting a conversation with someone who doesn’t know you yet.
Some conversations will go nowhere, some will turn into opportunities, and a few might even lead to great business relationships.
So pick up the phone, be yourself, and see where the conversation take
