I feel like more and more often when I am on a video meeting, this is what I see. Absolutely nothing. People seem to not be going on camera for a variety of reasons and it’s crazy. If you are in sales, I am here to tell you today that I want to see you on camera. I don’t care what you think you look like. I, don’t think it matters what the background is. If it’s not perfect. Your hair and your makeup don’t look the way you want them to.
You still need to be on camera.
I’m going to tell you, today I don’t feel like being on video. The lighting is horrible in my office right now. I don’t have any makeup on. I forgot my jewelry. It’s cold. I don’t feel like it. But here’s the thing. The connection you make with your prospects and customers if you’re on video is different. They know you’re paying attention. And if you’re using all of the strategies and tactics that you have learned, hopefully from someone like Julie Hansen, who is a master at video, you are connecting with them because you’re looking into your camera, which means you’re looking into their eyes and you’re paying attention. And it is really going to feel like they’re having a cup of coffee with you.
But what you can’t do is allow yourself to not be on camera because you’re not comfortable.
Get over yourself. You’re this big on a screen. It’s not like you’re in a movie. And it’s not like it’s going to be played over and over and over again to thousands of people. You’re talking to one person or a group of people right now.
So put your camera on. Get over it.
