Well, for starters, we can be in full Halloween costume at work, and unless you send your clients a picture, they’d never know! And believe me, I do send pictures because Halloween is my all-time favorite holiday!

But here’s the real trick (or treat): when it comes to being successful in inside sales, dressing up in a costume—literally or figuratively—won’t do you any favors.

Your secret weapon to success? Being yourself.

I get it, it’s tempting to put on a ‘sales persona’—like a Frankenstein’s monster or a perfectly polished robot, thinking it will help you close the deal.

Showing up as the ‘sales version’ of yourself isn’t helping you build real connections. Whether it’s a spooky spider hat or a metaphorical mask, none of that will strengthen your relationships with clients.

People don’t want to talk to a character; they want to connect with a person. Instead of playing a role, be authentic. When you’re genuine, conversations flow easier, and people trust you more.

And trust? That’s where the magic happens in sales.
