Commitment: The Secret to Lasting Success

In the sales profession, we’re surrounded by visible signs of our work and worth—whether it’s lists, phone calls, meetings, sales reports, awards, commissions, or promotions. These are the markers that everyone sees. But what about the parts of our success that no one else notices?

Over the past few weeks, we’ve dived into the four things salespeople hate to do but do anyway because we know they lead to success. Most of these actions, like maintaining a positive Attitude, are largely invisible to the outside world. They’re internal, quiet, and crucial to our growth.

This brings us to another key element of our success: Commitment.

Can others see our commitment? Maybe they see the results or how we carry ourselves because of it. But the truth is,

When we commit to something—whether it’s our career, personal growth, or success—we’re making a promise to ourselves. We’re in it for the long haul. We’re saying we’ll:

  1. Tackle obstacles head-on.
  2. Keep pushing, even when it’s tough.
  3. Stick with it.
  4. See things through to the end.
  5. Do the daily work.

Ah, there it is again—daily work. Commitment isn’t a one-time decision; it’s a daily practice of focusing on what we want and figuring out how to get there.

So, ask yourself:

  • Am I truly committed to my own success?
  • Am I dedicated to being the best version of myself?
  • Am I honest with myself about my capabilities?
  • Am I committed to putting myself at the top of my priority list and moving steadily toward something better?
  • Can I picture myself working on my commitment to success, even when no one else can see what I’m doing?

No one else can give you commitment. It’s something you have to give yourself. You—and only you—are responsible for this inside work.

When we look at what separates successful salespeople from those who struggle, commitment is a big part of the puzzle. So, what’s your commitment gap? How are you going to bridge that gap? How will you get from where you are now to where you want to be?

Take a moment to thank yourself for doing this inside work. Your future self will be grateful you did.

Cheers to your commitment and success,
Lynn
