Hello, my name is Lynn – I’m both driven and disciplined… AND I need accountability partnerships.
For years I felt a bit inadequate, why can’t I do it myself? Why do I get further when I have another person I’m accountable to?
Then I decided I didn’t care. If having an accountability partner made it easier for me to achieve my goals, move forward in my career, get SH*T done… why not leverage it?
Crazy thing is, based on informal – ad hock – conversations with other people they find the SAME thing to be true!
I love not being alone.
So I looked it up, and although I can’t find the study on their website, the following numbers are attributed to an Associate for Talent Development study.
The probability of completing a goal if:
- 10% You have an idea or a goal
- 25% You consciously decide you will do it
- 40% You decide when you will do it
- 50% You plan how you will do it
- 65% You commit to someone you will do it
- 95% You’ve committed to a specific accountability person & appointment
These numbers are astounding. Think about it – just by having a specific accountability appointment, your likelihood of success skyrockets to 95%!
Let’s all leverage an accountability partner and move forward toward our GOALS more quickly!
Practical Tips for Finding and Working with an Accountability Partner
Choose the Right Partner: Find someone who shares similar goals or values. It’s crucial to select someone who is as committed to their success as you are to yours.
Set Clear Expectations: Discuss what you both expect from the partnership. How often will you check in with each other? What methods will you use to communicate? Be clear about your goals and how you plan to achieve them.
Schedule Regular Check-Ins: Consistency is key. Set regular appointments to discuss your progress. These can be weekly, bi-weekly, or whatever frequency works best for both of you.
Be Honest and Open: Transparency is crucial. Share your successes and struggles openly. Your partner is there to support you, not judge you.
Celebrate Successes Together: Acknowledge and celebrate your wins, no matter how small. Celebrating milestones together can keep you both motivated and committed to your goals.
Be Flexible and Adapt: Life happens. Be ready to adjust your plans as necessary. The key is to stay committed to the process, even (perhaps especially) when things don’t go exactly as planned.
Provide Constructive Feedback: Support each other with constructive feedback. Be honest, kind, and focus on solutions rather than problems.
Leveraging an accountability partner can be a game-changer in achieving your goals. Don’t let the fear of needing help hold you back. Embrace the power of partnership and watch your productivity soar!
Let’s hold each other accountable and reach new heights. You’ve got this, and remember – you are not alone.
Together, we can achieve more,
Lynn
