At the top of the hour, that is when I told myself I’d begin “that thing” I didn’t want to do.
Yet at 24 after the hour, I was startled to realize twenty four minutes had been squandered.
Now I could give you a list of all the VALID things I worked on, took care of, checked off my list – I was still WORKING…
to quote Jeff Goldblum’s character Michael from The Big Chill “Don’t knock rationalization; where would we be without it? I don’t know anyone who could get through the day without two or three juicy rationalizations. They’re more important than sex.”
The funny thing is this post has nothing to do with time management, rather it’s about self management.
Here are my 4 mental steps I put myself through when this happens:
- why don’t I want to _______________?
- what happens if I NEVER ____________?
- what are the good thing that result from _________ being finished?
- what’s stopping me?
The answers are always useful.
The answers take off the blindfold I put on myself.
The answers help me to get into action.
