BIG assumptions

Recently I read “Stop making BIG assumptions based on one little impression” and I’ve been thinking of it ever since.

Today there is no story to read, it’s all about asking yourself some questions… they aren’t difficult questions if you’re the one asking them – some may be difficult because you don’t want to answer honestly. Others will be simple to identify with. A few my be easy to respond to!

The most interesting part is that the difficulty in answering will vary – from person to person, even moment to moment.

Here are a 7 questions to help you discover if you’re making BIG assumptions based on one little impression:

  1. How does __________ (the little impression) fit into my personal expectations?
  2. How doesn’t __________ (the little impression) fit into my personal expectations?
  3. What is my judgement about __________ (the little impression) ?
  4. Where does that judgement come from?
  5. What is causing __________ (the little impression) to feel significant?
  6. What is the opposite point of view or perspective?
  7. How is looking at __________ (the little impression) this way helping me?

Of course after answering the questions you’ll need to decide what you want to do about the BIG assumptions you’ve already adopted.
