Listen vs. Being There

I don’t agree with Woody Allen that “Eighty percent of success is showing up.” That means what you choose to do once you’re there is only 20% of success.

You certainly need to show up to be a success. In sales putting your self in a position to listen to your prospects and customers may be 80% of success. Actually LISTENING could be what makes up the rest…

If you’re having a conversation with yourself in your head… you can’t possibly be listening!

Surfing the internet (that’s NOT about the conversation) while your customer is talking… is just being there.

Distractions from: instant message, coworkers, your favorite song coming on… stop you – at least momentarily – from listening.

If you’ve ever said “I’m sorry, what?” you weren’t listening.

For the rest of this week; put away anything that could distract you, FOCUS your attention, and listen.
