“Orville Wright did not have a pilots license. EXPERIMENT”
That’s off a tee shirt my Dad wore often.
As salespeople we intellectually know that experimenting with new ideas, techniques, questions will help us be more successful. Especially in an ever changing sales world.
Yet, experimenting is scary, because in most organizations failure isn’t seen as a pathway to growth.
Consequently it’s important to have times and places in your sales world to take advantage of low risk experimentation options.
Try Out Ideas:
1. in conversation with your manager
2. outside your career
With Techniques:
3. practice in role-play first
4. consider the audience you’ll be using it with
Ask Hard Questions:
5. when you’re SURE you’ve lost a deal
6. of people who know and trust you already
Choose times when you can experiment to get better – PLUS the feeling of risk is low.
