Somewhere someone is teaching salespeople to send email threads and begin it with “In case you missed it…”
For the record, I didn’t miss your first (or second, or what ever number it was) email – I deleted it!
This will probably sound harsh – it’s not me, it’s YOUR EMAIL.
- It wasn’t about me, it was about you – your company – your service.
- You were lazy and said something that made the email instantly recognizable as a template that hadn’t been customized.
- I didn’t even get THAT far, having deleted you without looking at it enough to recognize you or your message.
Here are some random ideas that might make me scroll down instead of deleting you AGAIN without reading your message (of course you’d better check that previous email for items #1 and #2 or I’ll be annoyed with myself for bothering to scroll and read).
- In case the info on ________ got buried in your never ending inbox…
- Is ____________ one of today’s priorities?
- Hopefully you get the idea and come up with your own 🙂 using YOUR personality, YOUR style, YOUR voice.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t say, a call would probably help. Even if you end up in my voicemail, I have a better shot at recognizing your name in my email inbox having heard your voice!
Make your messages relevant to me, I might even click reply… or *gasp* take your next call because I feel like you understand me, my business, my problems… see it needs to be all about me if I’m the one who could be your next ideal customer.
