Slowing Down

Adrenalynn is my ski season nickname, it’s actually a moniker you can use about me anytime. It is my favorite drug.

I have a silly app on my phone, Ski Tracks, that does just that; tells me how many vertical feet and distance I’ve skied for my days on the mountain. It also tracks my top speed as well as an average.

Although my goal on skis isn’t speed itself, it certainly is a by product of how I ski and a part of my joy.

Back in 2013 I turned 47 and my overall top speed was 87.8 miles per hour… that’s 141.3 kilometers per hour so you don’t have to do the math. It was a bluebird day – a sunny weekday morning so no crowds, it had snowed recently and the trails were groomed to perfection. I came over the head wall on Essex and <<gasp>>

As I get older I am literally slowing down.  In 2024 at 58 I only went 43.3 miles per hour, not even hitting 70 kilometers per hour. Although not as fun to tell people about, skiing is still my favorite way to spend a winter’s day.

Slowing down with age
In eleven years by half
Doesn’t halve my joy
